Artist’s statement

Rebecca creates artisan lampwork glass beads at the torch flame from Venetian glass in her own Sussex hot glass workshop. Each bead is crafted individually by manipulating the glass with heat, gravity and the surface tension of molten glass, meaning each one is its own little piece of three-dimensional glass art!

She likes to combine like with like – but with a twist! Her beautiful bead bracelets are each one-of-a-kind pieces, and most are a dynamic and vibrant combination of colours and designs. Breaking away from the ‘all the same’ approach, even beads in the same colour, or the same design in a bracelet or set, are by their handmade nature inevitably different. In a bracelet, or a set, perhaps the beads will have colour in common, or design, or simply shape – but all are a joyful combination of art meeting fire!

All the beads are glass – even the ones that don’t look it! Rebecca’s homage to the shingle on Brighton beach is a particular favourite – glass beads that look like stone, but aren’t!

Goodies for sale include bead bracelets, beads for jewellery designers to use as components in their own work, beautifully-presented sterling silver pendants and earrings and one-off single beads compatible with one of the commercially-available bracelet systems.

Let fire inspire and find out more about creating your own collection of glass beads on one of Rebecca’s courses. Watch her demonstrating this captivating art form at the torch flame during your visit to Lewes Artwave’s fabulous venue number 106!
