I love stones, pebbles, shingle beaches, cairns, dry-stone walls, those tumbled rocks you can get in net bags from IKEA – you know the sort of thing. And it’s no secret that I love making my own ‘stones’ out of glass, tumbling them in a progression of different media until I get just to the right edge of ‘soft’ that I’m looking for.

This is a wee collection of simulated stones made from shades of cream, black and grey, shaped into natural pebble forms using hand tools. They look lovely together as a threesome, but wouldn’t be lonely-looking if used singly.

These beads have a beautifully smooth and very tactile feel. The ‘pocketsworth’ in the caption refers to the fact that I like to keep a stone bead or two in my pocket – a kind of beady security blanket, if you like, but this collection – or each of them, as individuals – would also work really well just knotted on a length of cord. In case you’d like to do this, included with this collection is a metre of plain 2mm black cotton cord.

The beads were made on 2.4mm mandrels.
The streaked cream bead is 14.5mm from hole to hole and 13.5mm at its widest point.
The black and ivory bead is 12.5mm from hole to hole and 13.5mm at its widest point.
The streaked grey bead is 14.5mm from hole to hole and 13.5mm at its widest point.
