The first live outdoor demonstration

I had a great time at Samuel’s Childrens Charity Annual Celebration Day demonstrating lampwork glass beadmaking outside for the first time!

A torrential downpour was thankfully brief – I was thankful to be under my gazebo – and the sun came out eventually. The acrylic screen I’d had made specially was just perfect, making it safe for spectators to be watching at quite close range, and of course for protecting my flame from the all-too frequent gusts of wind.

The wind didn’t make for a particularly ‘clean’ look to my later beads – it got stronger as the afternoon went on, and did begin to affect the clarity of the torch flame. I’ve now ordered two walls for my demonstration gazebo to lessen the risk of an inefficient (due to wind ‘assistance’) flame depositing smuts on my demo beads next time…!
